Albert Diaz - INTERVIEW

Albert Diaz is a Spanish fingerboarder well known for their excellent videos on youtube. With this, FBMAG decided to make him an interview to get to know this guy. Check out:

How does the fingerboard came into your life?
Well, when I was 14, a friend of mine showed a mini skateboard called fingerboard, and I was like, all the evening skating his home. Then, a lot of friends brought their own tech decks at class, so that is how fingerboard came into my life

What does it mean for you fingerboard?
Fingerboard is a life style for me, since I discovered it, I have learned lots of things and I have made lots of friends too. I love fingerboarding with my friends, it is always funny!

You like to do more fingerboard alone or with friends?
I like both, but when I want to disconnect from the world I prefer to enjoy a session in my desk; and when I want to have a good time and laugh a little, I prefer to spend my time chilling with my friends

What was the event that most like to go? and why?
BATH #4. It was the best fingerboard experience and I met a lot of good people.

How did it feel to represent Spain at an international event?
Well, I was not going to represent Spain, we were five Spanish riders, and I went to enjoy the trip and, you know, the competition was like a unimportant thing because I knew that it was super hard to win it.But I had received a lot of support from the Spain riders, and I felt a little bit like a hero for those riders

What is the diferences between spanish and germany scene?
Well, Spanish scene is not bad, but when I went to Berlín I was freaked because everyone treats you very well and that's like a big family. Here, I have my friends and I have great times with them, but there, in Berlín, the scene and the ideology is more develouped than here in Spain.

Tell me a bit about the Spanish scene
Nowadays we have small companies which are growing up quickly, and which have an exellent decks, and a exellent way to work. For example Bug (:D), they have good decks at bargain price, and people wanna buy the cheapest thing, even If it comes with the worst packaging or if it is not popular. Talking about the riders, here we have enough riders and several contest and meetups, and that's the best way to learn fingerboarding.

What do you think of the Portuguese community?
In my point of view, Portuguese community are like Germany community, they have big companys (lowpro, oak, yellowood..), and they have lots of riders supporting them too. And also, several contests and meetups, so I think that it's one of the best scenes in the world.

What are your brand of choice?
For my setup, prefer Bug decks, Blackriver trucks and Flatface wheels. And then, for all the other stuff, my choice is Blackriver.

How did your success start on youtube?
Well, I'm not popular enough in youtube yet, but I started to earn reputation when I bought my actual camera and then I started to improve my edits. Also, when I went to Berlín (BATH#4), I grew up a little more in this world.

What tips would you give to those who are starting on youtube?
Nice question! I think that you have to try to do easy and clean tricks, and not do hard and sketchy tricks in your videos. What's more, you have to be original and edit your videos with your own style, then, people will see something different and fresh.

Who you admire in the spain scene?
I admire people who is doing things for the Spanish scene, just like the owners of the new and veteran companies. And then, I admire those who are the best riders for me, who are: Martí Somoza, Pedro Martínez and Adrián Velázquez.

What do you think about the work of Fingerboarding Magazine?
I think that the fingerboard blogs are the best source of fingerboard information, and talking about FBMAG, I visit it regularly and I like how it works, it has nice ideas to entertain readers, and the contests are awesome, I love online fingerboard contests!
